This ending is absolutely incredible. It makes the entire rest of the movie actually make sense. The dynamic with the lead vampire, the butterfly, the discord between Neville’s claim of complete loss of human social functions and the fact that the vampires still together as they do, the wall of photos, the scene where the vampires set the elaborate trap. It all makes sense. It’s rare that an alternate ending is so much better than the theatrical. This is one of those times.
